The texture allows a secure handling even without knurling, but makes it harder to clean. It\u2019s almost like a chalkboard.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a 18650 flashlight the Predator is rather long, but still acceptable. It is 10 mm longer than the Dobermann, has an 8 mm wider head and weights 20 g more. The only difference between the Dobermann and the Predator is the head \u2013 body and tailcap are identical.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Length:<\/strong> 160 mm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Diameter:<\/strong> 41 mm (head) \/ 25.4 mm (battery tube and tailcap)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Weight:<\/strong> 133 g (plus 47 g for the battery)<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Armytek has already announced a \u201cMax\u201d version with 21700 battery.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/8cNnU-Gby-Hrgc0jZwh2eTI6RS_o7KW-mjZo6dLUtJI9isa6CIVp7nE2h1N_y9B5myvbTbBQsTDdd2IpIBF596u2A6c62B10LBpLQ7JzhK3LFobtTSUT8r0jPJ1qDKdrX_RR0qNMhnoM4CSGvR80qQ0\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The front is protected by a blackened stainless steel bezel with minimal crenelation \u2013 enough to indicate if the light is on while standing upright.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tailcap has the protruding switch and an attachment point for the lanyard. This is also the only sharp edge of the flashlight, so better use the included small splitring to save your lanyards.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The metal cap on the rubber tail switch is also one of the charging contacts for the magnet charger. Good solution to protect against water and dirt, but it requires the special charging adapter. It\u2019s enough to move the light near the charging adapter and it will find its way automatically and snap in place.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/5Kcz0w1SqT1E59ZR2Q0mIFTBgTIi6JKctTyJKpKR8_i5yigJT3pe_dSuOqtaL9LSiDQLe5FunJXLUZUwTA-DliFHLLgFkXxmLJJUrzh37FITfi8R_GJihMQiVfd6Zr2UTHdAn7guMqPe0enn8yn0HPI\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>User interface and features<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Predator has an electronic tail switch that behaves like a forward clicky. A half press gives you momentary light, while a full press toggles the light on and off.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Actuation of the switch is almost silent, but you can still feel a subtle click. Later I\u2019ll show you the internals of the switch which are amazing. The feel of the switch is precise. Unfortunately it is very easy to press by accident due to its exposed position (which makes it also easy to find, though).<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modes can be changed by loosening or tightening the head. This is something that I last experienced with one of my first LED flashlights, the Fenix LD20. You\u2019ll probably need two hands to twist the head, but otherwise it\u2019s really intuitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Illumination<\/strong><br><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Predator is available in two variants: Cool white (up to 1500 lm) and warm white (1400 lm). I\u2019ve chosen the warm white version because I prefer warm light and the 100 lm difference is almost unnoticeable. Both versions have a Cree XHP35.2 HI LED.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In comparison with the Dobermann, the beam of the Predator is slightly more focused, but also not as smooth. The spot \u2013 officially 5\u00b0 \u2013 transitions into the 40\u00b0 spill with some rings. The tighter beam improves throw a little bit, but only helpful when your target is really far away. On the other hand it feels too narrow for short distances. It appears to be well made and robust and comes with a simple, intuitive UI.
